If you’re like most people, you probably find the future of Artificial Intelligence (AI) a bit scary, exciting and confusing all at the same time.
Chancellor Lee Roberts has made AI a central pillar to Carolina’s future, and we are fortunate to have many on faculty and staff at Carolina who are experts in this emerging, highly consequential technology.
To help Coalition members better understand what AI is, how it can be used and the potential impacts of AI – both the good and the bad – we hosted a recent webinar to dive into these questions.
We encourage you to view the full webinar here, or you can view a few highlights where experts discuss:
- Where we currently already encounter AI in our daily lives
- The surprising amount of electrical and water power required to sustain AI and the environmental consequences of heavy AI use
- Survey responses from UNC students into how often they use AI, what they use it for, and their understanding of the ethics of using AI in the classroom and daily life
- What AI experts hope to see from the technology and what they fear
- How non-students (and Coalition members!) can learn more about AI, including visiting UNC’s dedicated AI training website CAIL.unc.edu
- How Carolina is already using AI and some of the current positive impacts we’re seeing from the technology
Whether you are new to learning about AI or are hoping to gain more insights into how it’s already impacting student learning, this webinar is sure to offer some useful information.
