Coalition for Carolina

Friends,

Thank you for the fantastic response to last month’s webinar where the Coalition for Carolina cofounders discussed what has been happening recently at Carolina and at universities around the country.

We had enormous feedback requesting more webinars to discuss important topics affecting Carolina, and we’re answering that call.

Please join us for our next discussion on Wednesday, May 14 at 10am ET, when we will be discussing the status of student visas and immigration on campus in the wake of recent actions by the federal government.

Coalition for Carolina co-founder Dr. Mimi Chapman will be joined by two fantastic legal professionals – Jack Boger and Deborah Weissman.

John Charles “Jack” Boger served on the faculty of UNC Law for 27 years until his retirement in 2017 as Wade Edwards Distinguished Professor of Law. His teaching and research interests included constitutional law, education law, and racial discrimination/poverty law.

Deborah M. Weissman joined the Carolina Law Faculty in 1998 and is the Reef C. Ivey II Distinguished Professor of Law. Her teaching and research interests include law and political economy, migration/immigration, human rights, critical legal theories, and gender violence.

You can read their full bios at the RSVP link, here.

We are fortunate to have two extremely knowledgeable, respected legal scholars joining us for this conversation about a topic that is important, complex and timely. We hope you can join us.

Legal Scholars Discuss: Student Visas and Immigration on Campus

Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at 10am ET

If you’ve been following the news, there has been no shortage of updates on the status of immigration and student visas on campuses around the country, including the Trump administration revoking the student visas of six UNC-Chapel Hill students in early April and just a couple weeks later restoring the visas in the wake of intense criticism and court orders. As visas have been restored, international students still face increasing threats to their ability to study and work in the United States. We will cover these recent events and other topics during Wednesday’s webinar.

Do you have a question about the current state of immigration and student visas on campus that you’d like our legal scholars to discuss? Email us at contact@coalitionforcarolina.org to submit your questions today.

We hope you can join us next Wednesday, May 14, for this important conversation!
