Friends,
Thank you again for your incredible response to our “Reject the Trump Administration’s Compact” petition.
Earlier this week, we delivered the petition to members of the North Carolina General Assembly, the UNC Board of Governors and President Peter Hans and the UNC-Chapel Hill Board of Trustees and Chancellor Lee Roberts. We are encouraged by the groundswell of support we’ve seen behind the petition, with 1,752 signatures to date.
While UNC has not received a formal offer to sign on to the compact, the Trump administration has extended an open invitation to any university to sign.
Other universities have already begun speaking out. Penn State’s president said they would not sign on to the compact, should they be formally approached. Even as far away as Alaska, faculty are organizing to encourage their Board of Regents to preemptively reject the compact.
Of the many universities that have already publicly rejected the compact, university leaders made it clear that hearing from faculty, staff, students and alumni made a huge impact on their decision to swiftly reject the terms of the compact. By signing our petition, you did your part to speak out against the compact on behalf of Carolina. As fellow Carolina supporters, we sincerely thank you for standing with us.

There haven’t been many public updates on the compact since the initial wave of rejections from some of the nation’s top universities. Of course, things tend to change in an instant these days. We will continue to monitor and keep you updated.

The Coalition for Carolina
