The response to our “Reject the Trump Administration’s Compact” petition has been incredible! You’ve helped us barrel past 1,300 signatures. Thank you. How far can we go? Can we make it to 2,500 signatures? Help us get as many signatures as possible by Friday.
We have received so many passionate comments from signers who are dedicated to protecting UNC from this federal overreach. Here are a few:
“Succumbing to President Trump’s demands would obliterate academic freedom in my beloved UNC.”
“Do not accept anything that limits the UNC System or its individual campuses to academic or governance freedom.”
“I urge you to reject this request to compromise the values UNC has held dear for decades and which serve as the basis of academic freedom. Our academic freedom is key to the credibility and future of UNC as a credible institution of higher education. Thank you.”
“Carolina absolutely should stay away from any entanglement of this sort that will compromise core values of the open and free pursuit of understanding and truth. This is a trap.”
“I would like to add my voice to other UNC alumni urging the University to reject any compact with the Federal government that abridges the ability of the University to make decisions that are in the best interest of UNC and the citizens of NC.”
“PUT STUDENTS AND EDUCATION ABOVE POLITICS!”
“Just Say No.”
We continue to see encouraging updates in the world of higher education, with top-tier institutions like Emory University and Washington University in St. Louis joining the growing list of universities rejecting the compact.
As the offer has been extended to all universities, though, we have seen the first school sign on – New College of Florida, a small public liberal arts college “remade by Gov. Ron DeSantis’s administration.”
Let us stand with our peer institutions – the likes of MIT, Penn and UVA – to protect Carolina’s independence and academic integrity by rejecting this harmful compact.
