Coalition for Carolina

Coalition for Carolina in Times Like These Webinar

Friends,

Thank you to everyone who joined us for last week’s webinar featuring Coalition co-founders Mimi Chapman, Roger Perry and Paul Fulton.  If you missed the webinar, you can follow this link to access the recording.  Below is a short video clip that gives you a sense of the discussion.

It is such a critical time for Carolina and academic institutions around the country. There is a concerted effort right now to dismantle higher education. It threatens not just campus life, but scientific research and the well-being of our communities.

We appreciate the feedback we’ve received following the conversation. Here’s some of what we heard from Coalition members:

Thanks so much for the recent webinar. My worst fears were confirmed but I have since written my NC legislators and my congresswoman. My senators are hopeless but I will call them nonetheless. I am grateful for the Coalition for Carolina. Keep it up!

Many thanks to the founders of Coalition for Carolina for participating in yesterday’s zoom meeting. As a dedicated alum of UNC, I am committed to the support of the university.

I greatly enjoyed the webcast yesterday and appreciate your courage and integrity in this time of anti-intellectualism and war on academic freedom.

Yesterday’s webinar provided stirring words about the need to resist current threats to academic integrity at UNC and higher education in general from the Trump administration, as well as continuing concerns about the worrisome campus and state-based developments that had led to the creation of the Coalition. How will those words now be translated into action? …. I believe that the Fridays would have recognized that it is time to act in the face of these crises and would have applauded bold action on the part of the Coalition and its leadership.

We agree it’s time to take action. We are already planning our next event to continue the important conversation, and we will be back in touch soon to share the details.

Roger Perry touched on an important point during the webinar which is worth reiterating. The Coalition for Carolina is fortunate to have backing from Carolina alumni living all across North Carolina and the country. Our many thousands of members are leaders in their communities and have the ability to influence decisionmakers in the state and nationally.

Don’t take your voice and your power for granted. Reach out to those you know – whether they be elected officials or members of your community – and tell them how important it is we protect Carolina and higher education from these dangerous attacks.

There is so much going on in the world right now. Be sure our leaders know that this is top of mind for you and deserves their attention.

You can find more information on how to get in touch with your elected officials by clicking here.

Thanks again for being part of our Coalition at such a pivotal time for Carolina. We look forward to seeing you at our next event.

Sincerely,

The Coalition for Carolina
